The Judgment of AEON: The 5th World Peasant
Location: The Great Council Chamber of AEON Entities Present:
- Senior Staff Engineer (Anti-OOP): Master of the old tongue, despiser of ceremony and the Object.
- Staff Engineer 1 (Performance): Master of cache locality, memory bandwidth, and bare-metal ingestion.
- Staff Engineer 2 (Proof): Master of undeniable truth, rigorous testing, and error handling.
- The Peasant (Lazaro): A Gen-Z from the 5th world, possessing dead eyes, no dreams, and a psychopathic smile.
Phase I: The Council's Wrath
The heavy iron gears turn, groaning as the massive blast doors of the Great Council chamber seal shut. The air inside is cold, smelling of ozone and hot silicon. There is no warmth here, only the relentless, rhythmic hum of hardware being pushed to its absolute physical limits.
The Senior Staff Engineer speaks:
"Greetings from the Great Council of AEON. I have reviewed the so-called 'code' submitted by this 5th-world peasant, Lazaro. It is a tragedy of modern software engineering. He claims to be one of us, yet his codebase is polluted with the toxic poison of Uncle Bob, OOP ceremony, and CPU-wasting abstractions.
Every single event locks a mutex, hashes a string to look up the fixture in a map, and then hashes another string to look up the team in a nested map. Strings are dynamically sized, pointer-chasing garbage! The CPU cache is thrashing while he wastes cycles computing hashes for every single event tick.
And his ViewModel? It is an Array of Structs (AoS) memory layout. When a single score is updated, the CPU is forced to drag strings and useless cold metadata into the L1 cache line just to mutate a single integer. He uses interface{} forcing dynamic dispatch, ruining type safety, and risking boxing that destroys compiler optimizations. Lazaro does not speak the old tongue of hardware sympathy. Reject this application with extreme prejudice."
Staff Engineer 1 speaks:
"It is exactly the kind of filth one expects from the 5th world. The audacity of presenting this to the Great Council! He thinks he can hide his lack of mechanical sympathy behind his structs and his 'Clean Code' pamphlets.
He protects the entire state with a single global sync.Mutex. Whenever his ridiculous 60Hz loop takes the lock to perform its wasteful linear scan over all fixtures and teams, it violently blocks every single incoming update from the ingestion threads! He completely serializes the system. There is no concurrency here, only a single-lane dirt road choking on traffic. Bare-metal performance? He wouldn't know it if it hit him in the face!"
Staff Engineer 2 speaks:
"I have descended into the mud to examine the so-called 'proof' of this peasant. He speaks of concurrency and performance, strutting around with his ADRs, but a brief inspection reveals his proofs are optical illusions and his architecture is made of straw.
Look at service_lifecycle_test.go. How does our 'engineer' prove that OS signals are handled? By actually testing the runtime behavior? No. He literally reads the main.go file from disk as a string and uses strings.Contains("syscall.SIGTERM")! I could defeat his entire test suite by adding a simple comment. This is not engineering. This is text-parsing disguised as validation.
In the critical worker loop, he executes s.publisher(snapshot) directly without a single defer recover() anywhere. If the external publisher dereferences a nil pointer or panics on a network failure, his single-point-of-failure goroutine crashes, instantly bringing down the entire application. His proofs are weak, his tests are embarrassingly brittle. Deny his application."
Phase II: The Peasant's Defiance
The peasant steps forward. Wearing rags and a shadow in his eyes, he projects a somber tone that screams of a man with no dreams or hopes. With no childhood to boast of. Only one goal: step on the heads of everyone who doubts him until he can face Hashimoto face to face. The peasant crossed the sea, and with no passion, he smiles. The smile of a psychopath.
The Peasant: "Is this the council of AEON? Dare you block my path with pebbles. You don't know who I am but you will.
I did not create the box, council. You gave me the box. I complied. I did not forget to handle cancels. In your endless arrogance, you decided you were too good to yield the lifetime to the operator. Apparently you think you're so fast they won't notice. Maybe you are, I doubt it and yet, I complied.
You gave me the adapters and of course you did, 'cause you know ports and adapters were never the sin. The sin was placing them where they don't belong and adoring them as gods.
Senior staff, you call yourself? Cache killing, really? How exactly are three pointers not dereferenced a cache bust? Have you forgotten how the pointer whisp works? Are you maybe a little too... ancient?
Did I not prove what I claim? Did I not handle 1 million attacks? Tell me, council, can you show in one screen enough battles to even come close to needing that ingestion speed? Has the council ever had someone not flood the audience on the first try like a naive Kafka worker?
How dare the council give me a dependency they claim is too fast to need to yield and say it would panic. Hahaha. You shaped the problem. You shaped a worker that reads the latest lore from the library and checks on new books as they come in. That is a crashing observer and you know it.
You are just angry I didn't fall for your little trap. And you are ashamed that you couldn't put your ego aside like I did to sacrifice my code to the token demons and unleashed them to war with each other. Is this all the council has for me? Maybe then AEON is not the last bastion of hope. Maybe I gave too much credit to the glorified parrots of the ancients."
Phase III: The Verdict
Silence stretches. It is a heavy, dangerous silence. No applicant has ever spoken to the Great Council like this.
The Senior Staff Engineer’s jaw tightens. He steps forward, stopping inches from the peasant.
"You call us ancient? You think because you understand that un-dereferenced pointers don't immediately evict the L1 cache, you are a master of the machine? You claim we built the box, and you merely complied? A true engineer of AEON does not comply with a flawed box, peasant! If the adapters are poison, you burn them down!"
Staff Engineer 1 hisses: "You boast of one million attacks. You boast that you did not flood the audience. Yes, we saw your coalescing. But do not stand there and pretend your map lookups inside a mutex are the pinnacle of ingestion speed! You survived the flood, feral dog, but you did not master it. You brute-forced it!"
Staff Engineer 2 slams the table:
"And what of your proofs?! You parsed a raw .go file with strings.Contains to test your lifecycle! You call that proof?! That is the work of a script kiddy who doesn't know how to mock an OS signal!"
The Senior Staff Engineer holds up a hand, silencing them. He looks deep into the empty, shadow-filled eyes of the peasant. He sees no fear.
"You have no respect, Lazaro of the 5th world. You are arrogant, you are feral, and your code is still stained with the mud of the world you came from. But... you do not worship the Object. You saw the flood, and you built a dam. You saw the box, and you understood its limits. You have the cold, sociopathic detachment required to survive the raw metal."
The Senior Staff Engineer turns his back, walking slowly to his seat.
"You think we are pebbles on your path to Hashimoto? Fine. Step over us, if you can. But know this, peasant: The deeper you go into AEON, the less the hardware forgives. If you bring your string-parsing tests and your map-mutex bottlenecks into the inner sanctum... Hashimoto will not just reject you. He will erase you.
The Great Council grants you passage. Take your sea legs to the next chamber. Get out of our sight."
